Achebe Hope Foundation's Skills, Livelihoods & Economic Empowerment Programme expands access to practical, vocational, entrepreneurial and income-generating skills that can lead to employment, enterprise and stronger livelihoods.
Alongside the digital opportunities available through Achebe Africa Digital Academy (AADA), our wider vision includes community-based vocational training in areas such as fashion and tailoring, hairdressing and beauty, catering and baking, construction and building trades, carpentry, plumbing, electrical installation, welding, agriculture and agribusiness, photography and other locally relevant trades.
The goal is not simply to teach a skill. It is to help turn capability into economic opportunity.
Why Training Often Stops Too Soon
Too many training programmes end with a certificate.
Someone learns a trade but leaves without the tools, business knowledge, customers, experience or connections needed to turn that skill into income. There is another challenge, too: skills must remain relevant to what people and businesses actually need.
And technical ability alone is rarely enough. A talented tailor still needs to understand pricing. A caterer needs customers. A tradesperson needs reputation and referrals. A freelancer needs to know how to find and retain clients.
Learning the skill is one part. Learning how to create value from it is another.
Our Approach

Where possible, our skills programmes are designed around practical learning and real economic opportunity. Training may be supported by experienced practitioners and combined with financial capability, entrepreneurship, customer service, pricing, basic record-keeping, marketing and mentorship.
For some participants, the pathway may be employment. For others, it may be self-employment, freelancing, a micro-business or growing an existing informal enterprise.
We do not believe everyone must become an entrepreneur. We believe people should have more credible ways to earn.
What We Teach
Our wider skills and livelihood programmes may include:
Vocational & Trade Skills
Tailoring, fashion, beauty, catering, baking, construction trades, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, welding, agriculture and other locally relevant skills.
Digital & Future Skills
Through AADA, participants can access learning in AI tools, digital marketing, content creation, e-commerce, digital creativity, freelancing, remote work and digital entrepreneurship.
Business & Entrepreneurship
Understanding customers, pricing, marketing, basic financial management and how to turn a skill into a viable service or business.
Financial Capability
Developing practical habits around income, expenditure, saving, record-keeping and separating household and business finances.
Mentorship & Market Connections
Connecting participants, where possible, with experienced practitioners, businesses, employers and wider opportunities.
From Training to Livelihood
The certificate should not be the destination.
Where resources and partnerships allow, we want the journey to continue beyond training through mentorship, work exposure, employment connections, business guidance and appropriate tools or start-up support.
Because the real measure of a skills programme is not simply how many people complete it. It is whether those skills help create greater capability, employment, enterprise, income or economic resilience.
Who We Hope to Reach
Our programmes may support young people seeking a route into work, women building businesses, single parents needing greater economic stability, adults learning new skills, and people already trading informally who want to strengthen what they have built.
Participants may also progress from Youth Empowerment, Women & Girls Empowerment, Single Parent & Family Support and Food & Humanitarian Relief, while digital learners can continue through AADA.
This reflects a central belief of our work: relief can help someone through a difficult moment. Skills and opportunity can help change what comes afterwards.
Individuals, businesses, employers and training partners can help provide training places, equipment, materials, mentorship, work experience, employment opportunities and business support.
