Why Governance Matters
People who support Achebe Hope Foundation place something valuable in our hands.
Sometimes it is a donation. Sometimes it is time, expertise or a partnership. And sometimes communities entrust us with something far more important — their wellbeing, their hopes and, in some circumstances, the welfare of their children.
That trust carries responsibility.
Good governance means being clear about who leads, who makes decisions, how resources are managed, what standards guide our conduct and what happens when concerns are raised.
For us, accountability is not simply a requirement of running a Foundation.

Provides strategic leadership and oversight, helping guide the Foundation’s long-term direction, governance, partnerships and commitment to community impact.
Lolo Mrs. Marie Ifeoma Achebe
Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer
Leads the Foundation’s vision, strategy and development, overseeing programmes, flagship initiatives, partnerships, innovation and the responsible expansion of its impact.
The Board of Directors
The Board provides strategic oversight, governance and accountability, helping safeguard the Foundation’s mission, responsible stewardship and long-term sustainability.
The Advisory Council
The Advisory Council brings together experienced individuals who provide independent perspective, specialist knowledge and strategic counsel on areas including programmes, partnerships, community engagement and the Foundation’s long-term development.
The Council advises and strengthens our thinking; governance responsibility remains clearly defined within the Foundation’s formal leadership structure.

Policies That Govern Our Work
Values become meaningful when they are supported by standards.
Our governance framework includes published policies covering areas such as safeguarding, child protection, volunteering, donations, financial accountability, ethics, privacy, accessibility and responsible organisational conduct.
We publish these documents because donors, partners, parents, volunteers and members of the communities we serve should be able to understand the standards to which we hold ourselves.
Financial Stewardship
Every resource entrusted to Achebe Hope Foundation carries a responsibility to use it wisely.
Our Financial Accountability Policy establishes principles for responsible financial management, record keeping, oversight and reporting.
As the Foundation grows, we are committed to strengthening our reporting and publishing appropriate annual reports, impact assessments and financial information, enabling supporters and partners to understand not simply what we intended to achieve, but what was actually delivered.

How We Make Decisions
Mission first. People always.
Our decisions begin with a fundamental question:
Does this advance our mission and genuinely serve the people and communities we exist to support?
Programmes should respond to identified need and credible evidence, not simply what is easiest to fund, promote or photograph.
Partnerships should be considered not only for what they can contribute, but whether they align with our values, safeguarding expectations and ethical standards.
Resources should be managed responsibly.
Impact should be measured honestly.
And where something does not work as intended, we should be prepared to learn, improve and say so.
Safeguarding & Raising a Concern
Accountability must include the right to challenge us.
Anyone who interacts with Achebe Hope Foundation — including a beneficiary, parent, volunteer, employee, partner, donor or member of the public — should have a clear way to raise a concern about our work or conduct.
Safeguarding concerns are handled in accordance with our Safeguarding Policy and should be treated sensitively and confidentially. Concerns relating to conduct, ethics or the responsible use of Foundation resources are addressed through our relevant governance policies.
Where appropriate, concerns may also be raised confidentially or anonymously.
